What's all this 5am hype about? Girl. Let me tell you!

Hello there!

So, something came over me last fall and I committed to waking up at 5 am for 50 days. Tahhh. I think I was brainwashed by memes on IG about 5 am risers being more productive and successful. I'd heard the notion before, so I have no clue what made it stick this time. But stick it did, much to Chris' (my fiance's) dismay.

Let's Recap....!

The Good:
  • You will get shit done. Things that have been on your to-do list forever. DONE.
  • Morning silence is amazing for writing or other creative activities. If that is on your list, then you have to give 5 am a shot.
  • You will feel more centered all day. Having the luxury of taking your time drinking your coffee, reading your preferred blog/news, working out, etc. is priceless.
  • It made me realize how much I enjoy my alone time. I’m a much more patient person throughout the rest of the day when I start my day slowly and with just my thoughts. Yes, I will be enjoying this while it lasts!
  • I’ve received so much support during this challenge. My tribe was checking on me daily and both keeping me accountable and cheering me on. Thank you!
The Bad:
  • If you ignore your bedtime like I did for the first two weeks, you will feel like death at about at 4-5pm. I require at least 7 hours of sleep to be at 100%. You may require less, but whatever that is stick to it.
  • Committing to your bedtime will be harder than committing to a 5 am wake up.
  • I repeat. Go to sleep.
  • TV will mostly be dead to you. I couldn’t stay awake for any Netflix time with babe the first two weeks. By the third week you will GO TO BED at the right time and will be just normal tired not comatose at night.
The Ugly:
  • For me sleep deprivation = short(er) temper! I’m just not a great human being when sleep deprived. Actually I’m not even an average human being. I’m a downright bihhhh. Sorry babe!
  • It was incredibly hard to get out of bed during week 2. It’s like your body regresses. Well really it was asking me to please make up my mind – are you a night owl or a morning person, woman?!
Moral of the story:  If you can commit to your bedtime, the rest will be much easier and you will avoid the UGLY!
I was able to accomplish so much during those 50 days.
  • Launched the beta #BlessedImpulse coaching program. Went so well! (more details on that here)
  • Designed my save the date and ordered it.
  • Started designing my wedding website.
  • Got my guest list together including addresses. Hallelujah!
Your girl was cranking things out. And, nothing brings more joy to my heart than crossing things off my list with a big ol’ sharpie!
If you want to give it a try here’s what I suggest:
  • Commit to a certain time period. How long are you going to try it for? A week, a month? That way you give yourself enough time to be successful.
  • Stick to your bedtime. Trust me.
  • All or nothing isn’t necessary. I missed 8 days during the 50 and it was still incredibly useful.
  • Get an accountability partner – Hit reply and let me know you’re doing it!
  • If you’re struggling to get out of bed employ Mel Robbins 5-sec. rule…count backwards 5..4..3..2..1 and get up (do the thing)!
If you do give it a try, let me know how it goes! Xo
