Productive Procrastination

Productive Procrastination

Productive Procrastination is a hack I devised for myself when I started my business.

As you probably know, the minute we schedule ONE thing our brains will always want to do something (anything) else.

Here’s what it look/sounds like:

  • I say I am going to start writing a brief and it wants to clean.

  • I say I am going to clean and declutter and it wants to post on IG or send an email.

  • I say "hey brain, this is business time, write the email" and all of sudden it wants to fold laundry and watch Real Housewives of Salt Lake City (yes, the Mormons!)

I came up with a hack to counteract this behavior.

PRODUCTIVE PROCRASTINATION = in the absence of a super important deadline, I stop fighting my brain on what it wants to do.

Instead, I am like "cool, lets fold laundry."

2nd sidenote: If you don't want to do anything, don’t do anything. Zero pressure here to replace one task with another.

The underlying thought that makes productive procrastination work is that EVERYTHING ALWAYS GETS DONE.

Somehow, someway we figure it out. Every time. That is self-trust. I truly believe that about myself. I figure it out all day, errday.

And, because I have that self-trust, I am able to go with my brains flow, releasing the pressure along the way, and ensuring that I get back to the ONE thing much quicker.

How can you take some pressure off of yourself today? Maybe engage in some productive procrastination with me!

I should have been drafting a v-important doc for work during the 10 mins it took me to write this. But alas, here we are.

I hope this helps!
